North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry Got Started Here In The Valley
The mission of North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry (NHIFP) is a religiously diverse community that strives to meet the nutritional needs of those living with food insecurity. The pantry began 39 years ago when five extremely dedicated women from the East San Fernando Valley saw the growing problem of hunger in their own backyards. The creators sent out postcards to various congregations briefly proposing their idea, and inviting anyone interested in brainstorming. Since its inception, NHIFP has evolved into an organization with a small, driven staff, an army of dedicated volunteers, and a multitude of supportive neighborhood partnerships. They currently serve an average of 500 families per week with grocery bags that contain a wide variety of nonperishable items such as pasta, rice, granola bars, oatmeal, pancake mix and more as well as toiletry items and diapers.
North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry now has ten participating congregations who diligently work together to keep the pantry doors open.
NHIFP is an organization that is building a culture of kindness and community care. They collaborate with local businesses, non-profits, teens, and families to offer the opportunity for people of all ages to get involved, give back, and do great things that benefit some of the most vulnerable among us in an essential way.
